The Magic Magritte
I re-watched the Thomas Crowne affair last night... a 90's flick which features Surrealist artist René Magritte. He was a master of using ordinary objects such as a bowler hat or an apple to create something extraordinary.
The ballet "Parade" (by J. Cocteau) had stage designs by Pablo Picasso and music by Erik Satie. After seeing this performed in 1917, a French writer named Guillaume Apollinaire coined the word surrealism when he wrote that the performance revealed "a truth beyond the real, a kind of surrealism".
